Beat Resistance Once a Day

Keep the Doctor Away

Resistance

Most of us have two lives. The life we live, and the potential life within us.

Between the two stands Resistance.

You know what resistance is if you've ever:

  • brought home a pull up bar but never used it

  • bailed out on helping a friend in need

  • had a vice you couldn't quit

  • had a dream you never took seriously because "it's impossible"

It keeps the singer from singing, the painter from painting, the smoker from stopping, the victim from taking responsibility.

Professional writers know - the hard part is not writing, it's sitting down to write.

Resistance is what keeps you from sitting down.

Six months to live

We all know some version of this story:

  • Woman learns she has cancer, six months to live.

  • She gives up on safety and pursues her wildest dreams

  • Friends think she’s crazy; she's never been happier.

  • Woman’s cancer goes into remission.

That woman acted only when she had nothing to fear, but you're a professional, and true professionals don't waste time.

"I don't feel like washing the dishes"

"Lets just order McDonalds"

"I'm too lazy to workout"

"Just one more episode"

See those arguments for what they are: resistance, entropy, the enemy within that is distracting, manipulating and ultimately preventing you from realizing your potential.

Walk straight, endure, and come out on the other side thinking "it wasn't so bad after all."

Personal-development in a nutshell.

Resistance GO

Resistance is infallible. Like a magnetized needle floating on a surface of oil, it will unfailingly point to that calling or action it most wants to stop us from doing.

Steven Pressfield, The War of Art

That's the game: follow the needle.

  • pay attention to what you're avoiding

  • make the point of doing that thing

  • start once a day

Resistance GO is capturing your moments of genius, it's choosing freedom over fear. It's self-expansion 101: Do what you think you can't so you don't think it anymore.

It's not a walk in the park, but that’s what makes a professional.
